Realising the potential of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games

We believe that increased involvement in voluntary activity will bring social benefits to the region particularly in the fields of skills, employment, education and participation in sport and culture. The London 2012 Games will be used as a catalyst to inspire more people to be involved in their local communities.
At Games time, London 2012 will require 70,000 volunteers to support the delivery of the Games and this number will be split across specialist and generalist roles. 250,000 people registered their interest in being a volunteer for the Games, and over 39,000 of these were from the East of England.
Applications to the Games Maker programme, to be an official volunteer for the London 2012 Games have now closed. Interviews for applicants from the East of England are taking place in London. However, opportunities to participate as a volunteer in local projects inspired by the Games are already available across the East of England.
